"Chinese Cinderella" chapter 4

In chapter 4 a few months later in winter 1942 (the story is still set in Tainjin) young Adeline started at a school called St.Joseph's French Convent School. I think Adeline enjoyed her new school and would rather be there then at home being treated bad. At school she had friends and teachers who praised her constantly for her hard work and people were there that respected her, where as at home she was bullied un-liked and neglected. Adeline and a rickshaw puller always had to wait for big sister to arrive to be taken home. One day when big sister came she started to question Adeline about what she learnt that day. Big sister said, "Why did God make you?" and Adeline replied, "I don't know, because teacher hasn't told us yet." Her big sister screamed, "That's just and excuse ... You don't know because you are stupid ... You don't deserve to wear this!" and she ripped the medal off of Adeline's shirt. This shows how mean her sister is to her and i felt it was unfair that Adeline was told she doesn't deserve an award she recieved just because she doesn't know the answer to a question. She is constantly getting picked on by her siblings. The next morning there was a gathering in the auditorium where the school gave out awards to good students. No one was there when Adeline got presented with her award which shows that no one in Adeline's family can make the time for her and see her get her award. Later on in the chapter the Japanese were demanding to be business partners with Adeline's father and eventually her father left Japan and dissapeared to avoid the Japanese soldiers and going into business with them. The Japanese stopped coming to the house looking for him after a while and life settled down. Adeline and her siblings were abandoned by her father and left with their step mother Ye Ye, Aunt Baba and Nai Nai. A few days later Adeline's dear Nai Nai had a massive stroke in her bathroom and was lay down to rest. Everything seemed happy at her dear Nai Nai's funeral and Adeline wondered how it could be when her Nai Nai was lying dead. I felt greatly for Adeline as she lost her grandmother. I felt a personally link to the story as one of my grandparents passed away when i was little and i felt bad for Adeline going through the same thing i did.
