"Chinese Cinderella" chapter 3
In the third chapter Adeline is fascinated by how small her Nai Nai's feet were and learnt that people in her generation had to get them bind. At dinner she wore her medal she won in the previous chapters for topping her class. At dinner she is asked about it by third brother and he congratulates her on recieving it. But her second brother does not praise her instead he scowls and hurts her by twisting her arm under the table while no one is looking, i think she felt a little confused. He tells her, "This'll teach you to show off your medal!" Adeline wanted help but no one was looking to get involved. Second brother was mean to her and bullied her. Adeline's father was happy with her medal, he praised her and patted her on the head and told her, "Keep studying hard and bringing honour to the family name," Adeline was very happy with herself and knew she must work hard to please her father.I think what her father said to Adeline was special and meaningful to her. The story is still set in Tainjin, Japan. Events that happened in this book are familiar to me as one of my friends went through some events that happened in this story as a child. Reading this book opened my eyes to how she must of been feeling through her childhood, and i now have a much better understanding of it. I haven't really read many books and i haven't read one at all like this story.
